Awonder Liang
Incoming first-year Awonder Liang became a chess grandmaster at age 14—the third-youngest American to earn the title. He describes his playing style as defensive: “I even joke with my friends that I’m not able to play chess unless I’m in a lost position, when my back is against the wall, and I’m fighting to save my life.” (Photography by Akwe McDaniels, Class of 2023)
